The Meaning of God (in One Piece)
Enel was the first character who called himself a god. Now we also have Loki, who calls himself the sun god. I believe Enel stole multiple things from Birka that drove him insane:
- old technology stolen from the ancient kingdom, which perished 800 years ago, blueprints to build a flying golden spaceship powered by electricity, the Arc Maxim
- the thunder fruit and the secret knowledge to combine it with Mantra (Observation Haki). This can be compared to humanity stealing the Apple of knowledge in the Bible from garden eden and getting cursed by god.
- knowledge of the flooding catastrophe and sinking of the ancient kingdom, which cost unimaginable casulties, this is why he calls people from below the clouds "blue sea people", he knew these peoples kingdoms where flooded 200 meters beneath the ocean in ancient times. He believed god would have won if the sky islands did not exists. The sky islands where a refuge for people fleeing from their sinking home islands. This is why he wanted to destroy the sky islands, as they where unnatural, since god did not anticipate the peoples survival on them.
So in conclusion God might be a title for somone who has acquired forbidden knowledge in the world of one piece This knowledge empowers them to achieve unbelieveable things. One who as sinned to discover a truth.
Infinite Power โกโกโก
This is a quite long post condensing the meaning of "god" in the story of one piece, connecting them with "infinite" power sources like the mother flame. It tries to reason about the meaning of creation/reality itself in the world of One Piece.
- Vegapunk says he needs infinite power, an eternal flame. Energy is all around them, but they can not harvest it. ๐ฅ
- Enel represents a concept of the villain, who stole infinte power (the thunder devilfruit) from a holy land (Birka), that he later destroyed. That infinite power source it what he later used to power up the automata on the moon! Enough to power an ancient city for his livetime!
- of course Vegapunk is searching for something even more impressive than that power of a mere Logia, a power he could easily ask the World Government for: He needs a power source so insanely strong it can power even an ancient weapon. Destroy an island so throughoutly, only an infinte hole remains. Weirdly enough the hole left after Lulusias destruction does not collapse in on itself. Yet a waterfall keeps falling into the hole. A hole in reality itself ๐ณ. The mother flame is able of that feat, no Logia power could achieve this.
- Enel represents an all knowing being in his micro cosm. Using the power of the thunder fruit combined with Mantra he was able to observe everyones thoughts in his realm (upper yard)
- Enel comes from a city called Birka (Birka was an ancient Nordic Viking Village, located in Denmark irl), that he destroyed himself. It must have been very technologically advanced similar to Vegapunks egghead science island. They knew how to construct electric motors and machines like toothed gear and even how to educate their lowliest citizens, like Enel, to supervise the construction and maintainance of a flying ship of great complexity. They knew about golds excellent conductivity, while the people of the golden city Shandora did not know the value of gold. Enel knew about the gold there, before he found it.
- Birka is also where Enel stole the knowledge how to build a ship to escape the planet to the moon: The Arc Maxim. This ship is the only independently flying, devilfruit powered physically flying object in all of One Piece. Yes, even Vegapunks Robot can only fly within the atmosphere of his climate system. Which means Enels ship is a more universal flying vehicle. Morgans flying news office is the only comparable ship I see in the Manga.
- escaping to his own planet unbenknowst to Enel, freed him from the powers of the "surface" of the world, the World Government
Logia Power limitations
- Knowing all this, and the limitations of Logia devilfruit energy, lets get back to what a Logia can not achieve, but the Energy Vegapunk speaks of can. An infinte power something that lasts forever, like
- the hatred of the sea for devil fruit user
- the Haki applied to a black blade.
- a hole in reality itself, where Lulusia once was. Erasing something from reality.
- this is why these powers are holy in a sense, because their effects last forever in the world
- The Creator of the world must have a similar story compared to Enel in concept, but on an even greater global scale. and he watches Luffy through his journey. Sometimes he finds his adventures funny (the sun shines), sometimes tragic (it rains / snows), or exciting (the thunderstorm). And it is not Imu.
- the weather often changes, in One Piece to show the mood of the story
- we also know that Yonko mood swings influence weather patterns
The Creator, a concept of God that trancends Enel
- Oda can be seen as a creator of infinite power in the universe of One Piece. He is able to create the reality, and erase things from reality, as he sees fit.
- The Bible Kuma carries around has physical locations written into it (as Bonney found the Sky islands in chapter 1097). The Bible in the one piece stands for how god created the locations the One Piece world is composed off.
- Enel escaped Odas creation by escaping to the moon, from the real story into a cover page story.
- By doing this he escaped the god of the one piece, breaking the 4th wall.
- we established before how Enel parallels Imu
- I also believe Imu wants to be his own creator. He rejects his creator
- this fits well with the Satanic design Oda went with for One of the 5 Elders, Saturn emerging from a Pentagramm, a demonic summoning circle
Let me start with a question: Why does god not erase the devil from existence? It should be in his ability.
- the devil escaped the creator and he is undefeatable by the creator himself
- this becomes especially important when considerign the Satanic element of Imu.
- Pentagramm summoning of the 5 elders
- this is why the creator created free willed individuals to challange the Devil in their own way (like Luffy), since his way is not working
- this becomes especially important when considerign the Satanic element of Imu.
These thoughts are all over the place, but may explain the disccussions fans have had:
- is Luffy free willed or a slave to his own fate?
- what is the meaning of "god" related to Nika, what is the value of the title "god" of one piece
- why does Vegapunk just use a Logia to attain infinte power he dreams of (see limitations of Logia power)
Did you start to catch up when post ts already started? Most people I hear from who started pre timeskip prefer the pre timeskip moments...
- for my fav moment: Enel discovering the golden Bell in chapter 295 commenting
The Bell that ushered in 400 years of fighting! Wonderful. As the Kami I will take this with me and finish my ascent to endless varse!!
- shows his twisted view on history
- and gets turned around by Luffy punching him into the Bell, ringing in the peace
